That’s a question I often ask myself. Why? Why am I suddenly having different modesty convictions from my parents? Why am I covering my head? Why do I endure the stares of rude and curious people?

Because God has commanded me to.

My conscience steps in a lot when I try on immodest clothing or think about immodest clothing. I’m ashamed and cast them away from me.

Comment with your favorite Bible verse on modesty. 🙂

God bless!

Disrespecting Your Body

September 15, 2011 Leave a comment

As I walk through stores, or any public place for that matter ( especially at the beach ), I’m surprised to see how many women disrespect their bodies. 1 Corinthians 6:19 says “Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? “

When I say disrespecting their bodies I mean the following things: 1. Dressing inappropiately, ex. skimpy bikinis, etc. 2. Looking like tramps, etc.

We need to respect our bodies, because they are temples of the Holy Spirit.

I’m not going to go into my usual lecture on modesty, instead I’m going to reflect on my own experiences around different men and women. ( Names will not be included for sake of privacy and respect. )

Once a girl ( teenage age I believe ) was leaving a convience store, dressed in shorts ( let me emphisize the word shorts ) and possibly a tank top. At the same time, a pastor was walking up to the store at the same time. Just before he opened the door, he looked to the left and looked the girl a few seconds before entering.

Men are wired a certain way. There’s nothing wrong with a guy admiring you because they think you’re pretty……how do I explain this…..but like I said, they’re wired a certain way. I’m still unsure how to explain it.

Another experience: I was in a grocery store waiting for my mom to finish paying for the groceries when I saw a woman standing a few feet away from me. I don’t remember her top but I remember her wearing tights. It shocked me. The bottom half of her figure was shown, with nothing left to the imagination. Thankfully, I never was subjected to having see the front-side of her body. ( no offense )

Making Mistakes

September 8, 2011 Leave a comment

Everyone makes mistakes, simply because we’re humans. You might wear something inappropriate or let a bad word slip out, but that doesn’t necessarily make you a bad person. Just pray for forgiveness and do your best to not to make that same mistake again.

I’ve made mistakes concerning modesty. I’m ashamed of what I’ve worn before, but I’ve asked God for forgiveness so therefore I’m forgiven. Unfortunately this was hard to me to accept for a while.

God always forgives, but this does not mean that you can keep repeating the same mistakes over and over and think,” Oh, God will forgive me. ” You can’t keep sinning, doing it purposely, and just act like God will forgive you. Hopefully y’all can understand what I mean.

This isn’t totally modesty related but this is something I felt needed to be shared. I’m going to upload some pics of my head coverings soon.

Being Modest In an Immodest World

August 18, 2011 1 comment

It’s not easy being modest in an immodest world. You can be stared at, questioned, and teased sometimes when you don modest attire. I need to find the verse ( I can be terrible at remembering verses sometimes. ) but Jesus said that if we follow him that we will be perscuted. Perscution can be a number of things like teasing, discrimination, etc.

Obedience to God is what matters.

One day, this Earth will pass away, and the saved will go to heaven. You will not take anything to heaven like your worldly ( of this Earth ) posessions.

Anyway, I’m getting off topic. Obedience to God really does matter. Christians are to obey God in every aspect of life.

If obedience for you means long dresses or loose pants, then ok! Just wear what you think God would want you to wear. A good question to ask yourself is:” If I was going to dinner with God, would he think this to be appropiate? “

When God Calls……

When God calls, do you answer? When God tells you to do something, do you obey?

I’m a mere teenager, and I hope I haven’t offended any adult readers, but our obedience to God is very important. If you believe he wants you to don modest clothes and/or start the head coverings, pray to him for guidance, and obey.

There are a good many of head covering/modest clothing resources on the Internet. Search around and you’ll find some good prices.

Having been a modesty convert for about 5 or 6 months now, and still living with my parents, I haven’t been able to buy anything on the Internet. ( due to the two facts that I’m a terrible saver sometimes and I haven’t asked my parents yet. )

Anyway, I will include a few links to some headcoverings/modest attire sites soon…..

Goofy Country Cousin

For all your plain dressing women, you know what I mean. Ever been around a fancy dressing woman, makeup, fancy heels, the works? Ever felt like the goofy country cousin? Well I have something to tell you.

There’s nothing wrong with being a ” goofy country cousin “.

These women are enslaved to their makeup and all that. They spend unnecessary time fixing their hair, painting their hair, etc.

Point is, I know some women will feel out of place with fancy women, but try not to let their looks do that to you. You are a woman of God.

Articles On Modesty and My Own Thoughts

I found some interesting articles on the topic of modesty.

Is Modesty Really Important?

Modesty-The Undressing Of Our Youth

Traditional Living Takes Modern Spin

I wish to convey the message to all my ” Modesty Sisters ” ( whether Christian, Jewish, Muslim, etc ):” Do not be afraid to stand up for your beliefs. Wear what you think God/Allah would find appropriate. Do not be afraid to be the only one in your family to cover and/or wear modest attire. Remember, we all make mistakes, and your journey through modesty isn’t going to be all cookies and ice cream, I would be lying if I said your journeys will go smoothly. It will be difficult at times. “
