Treating My Body With Respect

I will not dress like a ho, I will dress with respect. I will not dress in skin-tight, spandex clothing, I will dress with respect. The Bible says that your body is a temple of Yahweh, so I think that it more than deserves to be treated with respect.

A favorite modesty quote of mine is,” Modesty doesn’t have to mean frumpy. ” It can be frumpy, but it doesn’t have to be.

I do my best not to be judgmental of other people. It’s difficult at times, but I want to scream sometimes when I see a woman in tights, leaving absolutely nothing of her lower half to the imagination. I think the way a person dresses reflects their self-esteem and how they think of themselves. Of course, some people don’t know how they look in the clothing they don ( I remember being one of those people! ).

I am considering trying to get a long shirt and some jeans. Would that be okay, for someone like me? I mean, I’m a fairly average sized person weight wise. But I’m 5 feet 5 inches and a half. I’m taller than some of my dance teachers. I’m even as tall as 15 year olds. People have mistaken me to be that age before.

I don’t know if my ( modest ) style of dress will change in the years to come, but my Yahweh will be my support all the way through it. 🙂

Disrespecting Your Body

September 15, 2011 Leave a comment

As I walk through stores, or any public place for that matter ( especially at the beach ), I’m surprised to see how many women disrespect their bodies. 1 Corinthians 6:19 says “Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? “

When I say disrespecting their bodies I mean the following things: 1. Dressing inappropiately, ex. skimpy bikinis, etc. 2. Looking like tramps, etc.

We need to respect our bodies, because they are temples of the Holy Spirit.

I’m not going to go into my usual lecture on modesty, instead I’m going to reflect on my own experiences around different men and women. ( Names will not be included for sake of privacy and respect. )

Once a girl ( teenage age I believe ) was leaving a convience store, dressed in shorts ( let me emphisize the word shorts ) and possibly a tank top. At the same time, a pastor was walking up to the store at the same time. Just before he opened the door, he looked to the left and looked the girl a few seconds before entering.

Men are wired a certain way. There’s nothing wrong with a guy admiring you because they think you’re pretty……how do I explain this…..but like I said, they’re wired a certain way. I’m still unsure how to explain it.

Another experience: I was in a grocery store waiting for my mom to finish paying for the groceries when I saw a woman standing a few feet away from me. I don’t remember her top but I remember her wearing tights. It shocked me. The bottom half of her figure was shown, with nothing left to the imagination. Thankfully, I never was subjected to having see the front-side of her body. ( no offense )
